Smog Inspector Training

California Bureau of Automotive Repair Approved
Emission Training Program


The Grossmont Cuyamaca Community College District offers continuing education courses for Smog Technicians through its Corporate College and through new short term semester length classes. Auto 123 BAR Specified Diagnostic Training, Auto 141 Inspector Level I Training, and Auto 142 Smog Inspector License Level II Training.

Smog Inspector Training and BAR Specified Diagnostic Training

We have redesigned our Smog Inspector training into 8 week and 6 week short term classes Auto 141 Level I Inspector Training and Smog Inspector Level II Training. BAR Specified Diagnostic training is taught in a 16 - 18 week 5 credit hour full semester length class.

Smog Check Update

Learn advanced techniques for the repair and diagnostics of smog failures, as well as advanced diagnostics. This course meets the 16 hours of automotive technology update training required every two years for license renewal. Cuyamaca College is at a BAR-Certified School. Schedule and enroll for smog update training using our corporate training:

Smog Citation

BAR Certified 8 hour training for licensed Smog Check Inspectors who have received a citation by the Bureau of Automotive Repair. As applicable, the training may include a quiz to confirm the training component, a review of the official inspection procedures, hands-on assessments using vehicles with emission control defects or tampers, and a final written exam. Auto 141 Level I Inspector Training and Auto 142 Smog License are short term classes designed to fulfill the citation hour requirements.

To pass a course, students will be required to:

  • Complete all homework assignments
  • Successfully complete all laboratory assignments
  • Attend all scheduled course hours
  • Pass course examination - (minimum score is 70%)

Fees

Corporate: The update training is $325 or less. Check the latest schedule. Citation training costs $225 for each 8 hours of training.

College: We suggest students with a citation enroll in Auto 142 which is a two credit hour class $46 per unit plus fees. Auto 123 is a 5 credit hour course plus fees. Auto 141 is a three credit hour class.

What You Must Bring to Class

You must bring picture identification and smog license number (if you have a license) to class.
