Economists study the production and distribution of resources, goods, and services by collecting and analyzing data, researching trends, and evaluating economic issues.

Courses offered at Cuyamaca College include Economic Issues and Policies, Principles of Macroeconomics, and Principles of Microeconomics.
Cuyamaca College is the only community college in the state that serves as a Center for Economic Education for the California Council on Economic Education.
The median pay for an economist in 2012 was $91,860, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics, but it is important to note that most economists have earned a master’s degree or a Ph.D. Employment of economists is projected to grow 14 percent from 2012 to 2022, about as fast as the average for all occupations.
