ENGR 171

ENGR 171: Introduction to Robotics

Robot runs a short maze relying on "dead reckoning": the route is programming into the robot prior running. The robot does not rely on its sensors, with obvious and dire consequences

Robot cockroach. Runs around in the dark until the lights come on. Then it runs around looking for a dark place. If it finds one, it dashes in, then continues to scuttle around, always avoiding the light

This robot runs a maze by "wall-following", veering to the right until it encounters a wall, then feeling its way along the path using touch sensors. This is akin to going through an unfamiliar hallway in pitch darkness by reaching out with your right hand to follow a wall. It is a somewhat effective approach to going through a maze, but it doesn't always work, as seen in the video.
