Textbook: PHP for the Web, 4th Edition, by Larry Ullman

CIS 218 will teach you the basics of PHP and dynamic websites that use MySQL databases. We'll start with PHP language features and end with a small dynamic web app. You will use MySQL to implement a fairly sophisticated user registration and login scheme for your web app, and you'll be able to easily adapt the code for your own website projects.

If you want to learn PHP/MySQL, and you've either

  • taken and passed CIS 211 (the prerequisite), or
  • know HTML and some CSS and have a basic understanding of HTML forms, you can succeed in this class.

If you haven't taken CIS 211, you can challenge the prerequisite here. Just list any web development courses you've taken and/or any web development experience in a Word or PDF document, and attach it to your challenge form. Please email me any questions about the class.

The CIS 218 Syllabus is available on Moodle.
