CalWORKs S.T.E.P.S. Work Study Program

The Cuyamaca College CalWORKs S.T.E.P.S. Work Study Program provides work opportunities on campus for CalWORKs students while they are pursuing their educational goals. The goal of the work study program is to enhance a student's employability when they complete their college program of study that would eliminate the need for public assistance. Positions should be educationally beneficial or related to a particular career interest.

Work study is a time-limited program and provides an additional source of income within the requirements of the State's CalWORKs program. All work study positions are considered to be subsidized employment. Therefore, they are not to be considered permanent employment. The positions are temporary student positions to provide students with training to be able to compete successfully in the job market. Work study placements are not guaranteed to continue to the next semester. Eligibility must be reestablished each semester. The maximum number of hours a student can work is 15 hours per week.

Incentives for Students:

  • Gain valuable work experience
  • Learn how business works, acquire workplace skills and learn work ethics
  • Competitive wages
  • Wages are EXEMPT from being counted as income from the CalWORKs budget computation
  • Work hours count toward the 20/30/35 hour weekly requirement
