The Cisco Networking Academy at Cuyamaca College offers a rotation schedule designed to allow students to finish the CCNA certification in one year and the CCNP in 2 years. Courses are 3 units in 8 weeks. Please see How Cisco Classes Work.

This program blends in-class study with online study providing students with experience configuring real Cisco networking equipment in the classroom along with providing course content that can be accessed anytime using the Internet.
Resources Available:
Orientation for students who are new to the Cuyamaca Cisco NetAcad program is held the Saturday prior to the first week of classes each semester, in room E-205, at 9:00 am. Students enrolled in CIS-201 need to attend this orientation to get enrolled into the Cisco Networking Academy online curriculum.
Lectures are offered on particular evenings, but students may work in the lab any night Monday-Thursday. Please see Lab Information.

Cisco Networking Academy is a global education program that teaches students how to design, build, troubleshoot, and secure computer networks for increased access to career and economic opportunities. The Networking Academy provides online learning material, interactive tools, and hands-on learning activities to help individuals prepare for Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and Networking careers in virtually every type of industry.
Networking Academy delivers a comprehensive, 21st century learning experience to help students develop the foundational ICT skills needed to design, build, and manage networks, along with career skills such as problem-solving, collaboration, and critical thinking. Students complete hands-on learning activities and network simulations to develop practical skills that will help them fill a growing need for networking professionals around the world.

The principles of IP addressing and fundamentals of Ethernet concepts, media, and operations are introduced to provide a foundation for the curriculum. By the end of the course, students will be able to build simple LANs, perform basic configurations for routers and switches, and implement IP addressing schemes.

Describes the architecture, components, and operations of routers and switches in a small network. Students learn how to configure a router and a switch for basic functionality. By the end of this course, students will be able to configure and troubleshoot routers and switches and resolve common issues with RIPv1, RIPv2, single-area and multi-area OSPF, virtual LANs, and inter-VLAN routing in both IPv4 and IPv6 networks.

Describes the architecture, components, and operations of routers and switches in a large and complex network. Students learn how to configure routers and switches for advanced functionality. By the end of this course, students will be able to configure and troubleshoot routers and switches and resolve common issues with OSPF, EIGRP, STP, and VTP in both IPv4 and IPv6 networks. Students will also develop the knowledge and skills needed to implement DHCP and DNS operations in a network

Discusses the WAN technologies and network services required by converged applications in a complex network. The course enables students to understand the selection criteria of network devices and WAN technologies to meet network requirements. Students learn how to configure and troubleshoot network devices and resolve common issues with data link protocols. Students also develop the knowledge and skills needed to implement IPSec and virtual private network (VPN) operations in a complex network

This course, combined with CIS 206 Cisco Networking Academy VI, covers topics necessary to successfully complete the Cisco Certified Networking Professional ROUTE certification (642-902). Skills necessary for implementing, monitoring, and maintaining routing services in an enterprise network will be enhanced. Students will learn how to plan, configure, and verify the implementation of complex enterprise LAN and WAN routing solutions using a range of IPv4 routing protocols. Topics include: EIGRP (Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol), Multi-area OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) routing protocols, and Interior Gateway Protocol (IGP) redistribution and Path Control. This lab-intensive course provides hands-on experience by performing case studies using Cisco networking devices.

This course, combined with CIS 205 Cisco Networking Academy V, covers topics necessary to successfully complete the Cisco Certified Networking Professional ROUTE certification (300-101). Skills necessary for implementing, monitoring, and maintaining routing services in an enterprise network will be enhanced. Students will learn how to plan, configure, and verify the implementation of complex enterprise LAN and WAN routing solutions using a range of routing protocols in IPv4 and IPv6 environments. Continues using the CCNP ROUTE certification content learned in CIS 205 and introduces new topics: BGP (Border Gateway Protocol); secure routing solutions to support branch offices and mobile workers; introduction to IPv6; IPv6 addressing and routing; OSPFv3; IPv6 tunneling; and IPv4 to IPv6 translation. This lab-intensive course provides hands-on experience by performing case studies using Cisco networking devices.

CCNP SWITCH is the sixth level of Cisco Networking Academy courses and one of three courses for the Cisco Certified Networking Professional designation. The course covers topics that teach students how to implement, monitor, secure, and maintain network switching solutions in converged enterprise campus networks. The course also covers the secure integration of VLANs, WLANs, voice, and video into campus networks. Topics covered in the course include: Multilayer Switching, Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs), VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP), Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), Switch Security Techniques, Switched Port Analyzer (SPAN), EtherChannel, Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP), Inter-VLAN Routing, Hot Standby Router Protocol (HSRP), Virtual Redundant Router Protocol (VRRP), Gateway Load Balancing Protocol (GLBP), Quality of Service (QoS). This is a lab-intensive course using Cisco networking devices with comprehensive labs that emphasize hands-on learning and practice to reinforce configuration skills.

CISCO Networking Academy VIII --TSHOOT is the seventh level of Cisco Networking Academy courses and one of four courses for the Cisco Certified Networking Professional designation. Students will learn how to monitor and maintain complex enterprise routed and switched IP networks. Skills learned are based on systematic and industry recognized approaches to plan and execute regular network maintenance including support and troubleshooting network problems using technology-based processes and best practices. Troubleshooting topics include: Processes for complex enterprise networks; tools and applications; campus switched solutions; routing solutions; addressing services; network performance issues; converged networks; network security implementations; and complex enterprise networks. This lab-intensive course provides hands-on learning and practice to reinforce troubleshooting skills using Cisco networking devices.

The Cisco Networking Academy CCNA Security course provides a next step for individuals who want to enhance their Cisco certification-level skill set and help meet the growing demand for network security professionals. The curriculum provides an introduction to the core security concepts and skills needed for the installation, troubleshooting, and monitoring of network devices to maintain the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of data and devices.

The Cisco Networking Academy–Voice course covers the topics aligned to the Introducing Cisco Voice and Unified Communications Administration (ICOMM v8.0) 640-461 professional certification exam. This course introduces students to the architecture, components, functionalities, and features related to Cisco Unified Communications. This is a lab-intensive course providing students with the hands-on experience necessary to perform tasks related to system monitoring, moves, additions and changes on Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express, Cisco Unity Connection, and Cisco Unified Presence.
