World Languages

The Cuyamaca College World Languages Department believes that a student will achieve success in all facets of life by being culturally and linguistically equipped to communicate effectively in a pluralistic society.

Further, almost all four year universities require at least two or three sequential semesters of a single foreign language in order to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree. In addition, most graduate programs require a working knowledge of two foreign languages. Most of Cuyamaca's courses satisfy General Education requirements for community colleges and four year colleges and universities and are transferable to any University of California or California State University system.

Cuyamaca College is one of the few community colleges to offer courses in Aramaic, which are designed to provide students with skills in understanding, speaking, reading and writing Aramaic. Other World Languages Programs include courses in Spanish, French and Arabic. Associate Degrees Certificates of Achievement are offered in Spanish.

Explore the Cultures of the World

Cuyamaca College's World Languages Department offers much more than learning a foreign language. It offers a window to the world, enabling students to study other cultures through film and out of class activities. It encourages students to participate in multilingual communities and provides the tools while feeding the desire to explore the foreign lands. Walk into our classrooms and you will hear Latin music, take a walking tour of Madrid, view art in the Louvre and experience the gastronomical delights of the Middle East.

The Cuyamaca College World Languages Program adheres to proficiency guidelines set forth by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.
