Virtual Care Fair

Due to the campus closure, Cuyamaca Cares will be unable to host our second Care Fair of the semester. To continue ensuring that our community partnerships are there to serve our students, Cuyamaca Cares has put together this Virtual Care Fair - a directory of community agencies and the resources that they sent to us when we explained the continuing and amplified student need. Click on the blue links to be directed to these community resources.

 San Diego County Behavioral Health Services

On top of their usual Services, BHS has also provided a list of COVID-19 Mental Health Resources meant to assist people in coping with the mental effects of the pandemic.

Courage to Call

Courage to Call is a program of Mental Health Systems meant to improve mental wellness for Veterans, Active Duty, Reservists, National Guardsmen, and their families. Their Website details their services and provides an update on how COVID-19 impacts them. As stated on the update: "...we have temporarily suspended in person office interactions, community events and food distributions". Community Through Hope

Community Through Hope has altered its operations in serving food and housing insecure individuals during the pandemic. Their Website and COVID-19 Response Page are good places to start for information. In summary:

  • Temporary Modifications
    • Food bank converted to emergency response food bank
    • Distributes food, diapers, and emergency health bags
    • Hours of operation:
      • Tuesday & Thursday, 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM (line starts forming at 7:30 AM)
    • Case management services suspended until further notice

Crisis House

Crisis House operates programs that address domestic violence and homelessness. Their Website outlines their usual services. During the pandemic, the Resource Center is available for people experiencing homelessness from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. In addition, Crisis House will be temporarily closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays. 

CSA San Diego County

CSA is a non-profit that works to fight housing discrimination and advocate for those who have experienced it. Their Website and About Us Page provide general information on their mission and services. In addition, CSA also has pages dedicated to information on Housing DiscriminationHousing Rights to Habitability, and COVID-19's Impact on Housing.

Dreams for Change

Dreams for Change has continued operations to aid those experiencing homelessness and low income during COVID-19, albeit with modifications. Their Website and Programs Page give an overview of their usual services. Additionally, Dreams for Change has published their Programs Still Running During Coronavirus COVID-19 page, which provides updates on their programs and how they have been adapted to the current situation.

Public Health Center - East

Health and Human Services' East Public Health Center has their services on their Website. Additionally, a link at the top of the main page brings the user to a COVID-19 Information Page. A representative was kind enough to provide Cuyamaca College with a Google Doc detailing community resources to help with all aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic (under "Additional Resources").

Family Resource Center - El Cajon

Health and Human Services' El Cajon Family Resource Center provides services for CalWORKS, CalFresh, Medi-Cal and General Relief. Their Website lists their services, location, and hours of operation. 

Family Health Centers of San Diego

Family Health Centers of San Diego provides affordable healthcare to low income and uninsured people. Their Website provides a good starting point to access services and their COVID-19 Info/Resources Page answers common questions about COVID-19 as well as providing a short list of resources in the larger community.

Father Joe's Villages

Father Joe's Villages is continuing to offer services to individuals experiencing homelessness. Their Website provides an overview of their usual services. In addition, FJV has set up a COVID-19 Response Page to provide an overview of how they are responding to the current situation. A representative reached out to us to provide a short list of some of the modifications to services, which can be seen below.

  • Temporary Modifications:
    • Day Center allows only 25 people at a time
    • Guest Services at Joan Kroc Center open from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
    • Travelers Aid currently not providing services at FJV

Good Shepherd Ministry Center

The Good Shepherd Ministry Center provides community services such as a food pantry and diaper program. Their Website provides an overview of services, including which ones are temporarily closed as a result of the COVID-19 lockdown. A flyer providing details on services during lockdown is provided below.

Home Start

Home Start has continued to offer services, such as housing, during lockdown. Some services have gone virtual, however. For a full list of resources, check out the Home Start Website and contact Home Start for inquiries. Additionally, a representative has provided us with a flyer detailing eligibility criteria for college students to apply for CalFresh. As criteria have changes since COVID-19, students are encouraged to contact Jose Vega, whose contact info can be found on the flyer below.

Jewish Family Services

Jewish Family Services (JFS) continues to operate through the pandemic, although certain services have been modified or suspended. The JFS Website and Services Descriptions provide an overview of regular services. The Response to COVID-19 provides details on program modifications, the JFS Emergency Response Fund, and more.

San Diego Youth Services

San Diego Youth Services (SDYS) has sent several resources to Cuyamaca Cares that can help to address needs during the pandemic. Their Website and Resources During COVID-19 Page provide useful information. The materials below outline resources that can be accessed at the agency and in the greater community.

UnitedHealthcare Community Plan

UnitedHealthcare Community Plan (UHCP) provides Medicaid plans as well as a dual Medicaid and Medicare plan for individuals who have both. Their Website can be used to obtain information on plans and apply for coverage. In addition, UHCP has put together a helpful page with Information on COVID-19. A UHCP representative has provided us with an enrollment reference sheet that provides a snapshot of coverage (found below).

Veterans Village of San Diego

Veterans Village of San Diego (VVSD) provides resources, services, and support for the veteran population, particularly in terms of housing issues. VVSD's Website and Programs Page provide overviews of services offered. As the COVID-19 pandemic has altered service delivery in countless agencies, students are advised to contact VVSD to enquire about any changes. The contact information can be found below.

Wesley House

Wesley House provides below market rate housing for college students. Although the residence is located right off SDSU's campus, applications for housing are open to all college students. In addition to the information on their Website, a Wesley House representative has provided Cuyamaca Cares with their 2019 Impact Report, providing a more detailed overview of services and effectiveness, which can be found under Additional Resources. Applications for housing can be found on the contact page.
