RISE Program (Resources for Immigrant Students in Education)
The RISE Program is designed to assist students who are AB540 or who participate in the California Dream Act or the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) programs. In addition to EOPS and/or CARE services, students are eligible for counseling case management, personalized financial aid assistance, resource referrals, mentoring, life skills workshops, and cohort-building events and orientations.

AB 540, Dreamer/DACAmented, OR Undocumented students who are taking at least 6 units at Cuyamaca College [ADD]
Where do I start?
Follow the steps below to get started on the road to fulfilling your college dreams!
- Make an appointment to meet with Leo Carrillo, RISE Coordinator, to determine your eligibility, email at leonei.carrillo@gcccd.edu
- Apply for financial aid. For more information about the types of financial aid available to AB 540 students as a result of the California Dream Act, refer to the California Student Aid Commission or visit our Cuyamaca Undocumented Students Resources webpage
- Apply to EOPS and meet with an EOPS Counselor to develop a plan to help you achieve your educational goals
- Attend RISE Orientation

Semester Requirements
- Attend two counseling appointments per semester to access the following services:
- Career exploration regardless of citizenship status, building an educational plan, assistance applying for scholarships, internship/volunteer opportunities, resume and cover letter assistance
- Optional Workshops or Group Meetings
- Progress Report
Cuyamaca Cares Emergency Funds
Current Cuyamaca Students are eligible to apply, regardless of citizenship status for a one time disbursement of emergency assistance per semester of attendance.
The CARES Act Emergency Assistance Fund is meant to assist students facing financial emergencies. Students can receive up to $500 for academic and financial needs.
Current students may apply for a one time disbursement for emergency assistance per semester of attendance.
*Summer applications are accepted from June 1 to July 31, 2020.
*Fall applications will be accepted from August 1-December 23, 2020.
**You must be enrolled in classes in the current term you are applying for.

The Higher Education Legal Services (HELS) initiative through Jewish Family Service (JFS) is a unique opportunity for students, staff, and faculty to access personalized Immigration Legal Services from highly qualified legal practitioners.
